ICYMI – A reunion of two 9/11 survivors and a message to the world for a better tomorrow
Saturday marked twenty years since the tragic 9/11 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. Thousands gathered at the sites of the attacks in New York City, Washington DC and Shanksville, Pennsylvania to share a moments of silence to honor those who were lost. September 11th 2001 was a day that many are still coming to terms with, including Reuters photojournalist Shannon Stapleton and Kayla Bergeron, a 9/11 survivor who Stapleton photographed as she escaped the towers. Two decades later, they met to reflect on their own personal journeys of recovery.
In poetic contrast to the heavy emotions and painful reflections of the past, lyrics celebrating the hopes of a better, safer, more peaceful future were cast onto landmarks around the world to mark fifty years since John Lennon’s iconic song “Imagine” was released. The words “Imagine all the people living life in peace” shone brightly across the Berlin, Tokyo, London and New York skylines.
