Conducted independently by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, The Digital News Report 2024 is the most comprehensive news consumption research worldwide, created through 94,000+ interviews, in-depth conversations and focus groups in 47 different markets – representing over half the world’s population.  

This year’s report comes against the backdrop of the growing application of AI in the newsroom and how this impacts audience trust in the news. The report aims to brings insights into relevant issues and provides an international comparison across different regions around the globe, including:

  • How audiences think the news media fulfills different user needs.
  • How audiences think about generative AI in the context of a super election year.
  • Which influencers audiences pay attention to when it comes to news in different countries.
  • How social media is changing news consumption with the rise of video-led platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
  • How much audiences are willing to pay for news in different countries.
  • How audiences think about trust in news.

The report also explores how news consumer behaviors are changing, as well as increased regulatory concerns about misinformation and other issues.
