Last week, Reuters hosted the 2024 edition of Reuters NEXT, its definitive annual live journalism event examining the significant challenges and opportunities facing society, business and the world.
Reuters NEXT 2024 brought together more than 750 leaders in New York to hear from chief global policymakers, business leaders and forward thinkers, including Latvia Foreign Minister Baiba Braže, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union & Cooperation José Manuel Albares Bueno, Alphabet and Google President and CIO Ruth Porat, Goldman Sachs Chairman and CEO David Solomon, Lithuania Designate Minister of Defense Dovilė Šakalienė, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar and many more. Highlights from the packed two days of interviews and panel discussions included:

Reuters NEXT featured multiple stages to go in-depth on topics including banking, markets, AI and tech, as well as workshops and roundtables.
The Banking & Markets stage hosted speakers discussing the future of the banking & finance industry at one of the most critical times in its history. Attended by senior banking and finance executives, this stage united industry powerhouses and policymakers to discuss the lessons learned from the recent banking crisis and how to navigate an uncertain economic outlook. Issues discussed include the potential for consolidation in the banking industry, consumer resilience in the face of a looming recession, geopolitical risks and climate considerations.
The AI & Tech Stage featured a stellar line-up of guests to explore the salient disruptive technology of today. The 2024 interviews and panels delve into the business and social implications of generative AI, including concerns about the ethical challenges of its breakneck development, and a look at where the smart investment money is going.
The AI & Tech stage also hosted a series of discussions on AI & The Future of News to address the question “What’s NEXT for News & Media?” The event brought together large and small publishers and leading technology companies to discuss and the AI’s role in the future of news. Key topics covered included AI’s role in news gathering and reporting; product innovation and responsible experimentation; misinformation, trust, and the disclosure paradox; and new business models and the relationship between news organizations and big tech companies. The discussions highlighted the importance of leading the conversation on AI in news, especially for trusted news agencies like Reuters. The event also touched on Reuters’ approach to leveraging AI, including its use in fact-checking and addressing online misinformation while maintaining transparency.

Reuters NEXT will return in 2025 in New York and Singapore, with more exciting plans to be announced in the new year.
