Over the past few weeks, Reuters has received a number of journalism award honors, recognizing Reuters multimedia excellence around the world.
This week, Reuters was named a finalist for two Webby Awards, the leading international awards honoring excellence on the Internet. Shielded, by Andrew Chung, Lawrence Hurley, Andrea Januta, Jaimi Dowdell, Jackie Botts and team, is shortlisted in the Websites and Mobile Sites: Best Individual Editorial Feature – Media Company category, and the COVID-19 Global Tracker is shortlisted in the Websites and Mobile Sites: Technical Achievement category. You can vote for them to win in the People’s Voice award through May 6, and winners will be announced on May 18.
The Reuters social media team was also named a three-time honoree in the Webby Awards: for pandemic coverage in Social: Public Service & Activism, for election coverage in Social: News & Politics (campaigns), and for overall coverage in Social: News & Politics.
Reuters photojournalists were recognized in the Pictures of the Year International contest, which honors the best of documentary photography, photojournalism, visual editing and online multimedia. Carlos Barria and Brian Snyder received Awards of Excellence in the Election category; Lawrence Bryant received an Award of Excellence in the General News category; Danish Siddiqui, Dylan Martinez and Jonathan Ernst won Awards of Excellence in the Spot News category; Mike Segar, Brendan McDermid, Andrew Kelly, Lucas Jackson, Joy Malone, Jeenah Moon and Eduardo Munoz were finalists in the Local Team Picture Story category; and Adrees Latif and Loren Ellion were named finalists in the Community Awareness and World Understanding categories, respectively.
The Deadline Club, the New York City Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, named Reuters a finalist in four categories: Watchful Eyes, by Jeffrey Dastin, for Newspaper or Digital Enterprise Reporting; Shielded in the Digital Innovation category; and the American Injustice series for the Daniel Pearl Prize for Investigative Reporting and the Public Service Award. Winners will be announced on May 17.
Dying Inside, by Peter Eisler, Jason Szep, Linda So, Grant Smith, Ned Parker and team, was named a finalist for an IRE Award in the FOIA category.
Reuters won Best Graphic in the Los Angeles Press Club’s National Entertainment Journalism Awards, for Lightsaber Duels, by Travis Hartman and Matthew Weber. Matt also won second place for Marvelous: Inside the Marvel cinematic universe.
The Daphne Project, a collaboration between Reuters and a number of media organizations around the world, was among the winners of the Investigative Journalism for Europe’s Impact Awards. Major news organizations from around the world collaborated in the Daphne Project, a unique investigation to keep the stories of murdered journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia alive.
In the White House News Photographers Associations’ Eyes of History Awards, Jonathan Ernst place first in the Feature category. He also placed second in the Domestic category. And Jim Bourg received an Award of Excellence for coverage of the Capitol Hill riots.
Finally, in the Boston Press Photographers Association Awards, Brian Snyder won Best in Show, first place in News Picture Story, second place in Racial Justice, and honorable mentions in Politics and Photographer of the Year.
