Reuters, the world’s largest multimedia news provider, today announced it has partnered with Twitter to help provide context and trustworthy reporting around emerging conversations on Twitter, including those that may be misleading. Reuters will provide credible information for Twitter to add to curated Moments, Trends and other surfaces within Twitter to give people helpful information to make informed decisions.
This work will be led by a global Reuters team with deep expertise in assessing the authenticity of content and exposing false information. The team will collaborate with Twitter’s Curation team to identify and contextualize English-language content on Twitter across a wide range of topics.
“Trust, accuracy and impartiality are at the heart of what Reuters does every day, providing billions of people with the information they need to make smart decisions. Those values also drive our commitment to stopping the spread of misinformation. We’re excited to collaborate with Twitter to leverage our deep global and local expertise to serve the public conversation with reliable information,” said Hazel Baker, Head of UGC Newsgathering, Reuters.
“Twitter’s Curation team works every day to elevate context about some of Twitter’s biggest and fastest-moving conversations. We’re excited to collaborate with reliable sources to expand the speed and scale of our work to contextualize the public conversation,” said Joanna Geary, Senior Director, Curation, Twitter.
Reuters work on social media content will continue to be published on the Reuters Fact Check page and will now be available on Twitter at @reutersfacts.
Over the last two years, Reuters has launched multiple efforts to stop the spread of misinformation, including verifying content on social media in multiple countries and languages, helping newsrooms around the world identify manipulated media and creating media literacy resources to educate communities globally.
