Reuters announced today the appointment of Peter Thal Larsen as Global Editor of Breakingviews, the international commentary arm of Reuters News, which delivers agenda-setting financial insight on the most important events impacting global markets, economies and corporate finance.
Larsen joined Breakingviews in 2009 and brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He led coverage of financial services from London before moving to Hong Kong as Asia Editor in 2012. There he built up the local team and launched the Asian edition of Breakingviews. Since 2017, he has led the team in Europe as EMEA editor.
In a message to staff on Monday, Reuters Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni said that “Peter’s plans for Breakingviews include expanding its in-depth commentary to offer a more forward-looking and market-oriented perspective for its readers, supplementing its swift and authoritative analysis of breaking financial and business stories.”
Prior to joining Reuters, Thal spent a decade at the Financial Times in London and New York, where he was part of the team covering the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. As banking editor, he led the paper’s award-winning coverage of the global financial crisis.
