Pride Month celebrations took center stage around the world throughout June and into July, with many events returning for the first time in two years due to the pandemic. From momentous parades to community rallies, Reuters was on the ground to capture the events as they unfolded.
Earlier in June, Reuters reported how thousands of members of Thailand’s LGBTQ+ community raised rainbow flags in the country’s first official parade to celebrate Pride month and support gender equality. Pride marches and celebrations were also covered widely in Rome, Latin America, and in the UK where more than a million people flocked to London for a record-breaking 50th anniversary Pride parade.
Amid the celebrations, key coverage from Reuters included: the Turkish police preventing Istanbul Pride from going ahead; the horror in Oslo when a gunman killed two people and injured 21 on the day the city was due to celebrate its annual parade; and the thousands of Poles and Ukrainians walking for peace and demanding an end to discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.
Reuters photojournalists were also in the field capturing some of the key moments across the month. A selection of powerful images from Reuters Pictures are below, with the full gallery available here.
