Reuters pioneering collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to showcase a next-generation content distribution technology has won the Broadcast Tech Innovation Award for Best Innovative Use of Cloud. The project, first showcased at IBC 2025, demonstrates a cloud-native video distribution workflow that has the potential to transform how news content is created, moved and monetized across the broadcast industry.

The judges described the project as "a total game changer for the industry, a uniquely collaborative effort and a fine example of how great the industry can be when it comes together."

The award-winning workflow demonstrates how cloud-native collaboration can streamline fast-turnaround news production, reduce operational costs and unlock new commercial opportunities for news providers and broadcasters. Built on the time-addressable media store (TAMS) API specification and developed as part of AWS's Cloud Native Agile Production (CNAP) initiative, the workflow enables video footage to move through the distribution chain in seconds. Using cloud-native architecture on AWS, Reuters and AWS demonstrated at IBC how live video feeds and footage from Reuters can be ingested into a TAMS store and then instantly and securely accessed by other news organizations worldwide—without traditional file transfers or duplicated storage.

"Speed, accuracy and trust have defined Reuters journalism since 1851. This award recognizes more than just a technical proof of concept; it is a real shift in how journalism can be produced and delivered," said Alphonse Hardel, Head of Reuters News Agency. "By working with AWS, we are turning camera-to-cloud from an idea into an operational reality for the industry—getting verified visuals from the field to editors, broadcasters and publishers in seconds. It's about helping our customers move faster, reduce complexity and deliver trusted news to audiences everywhere."

"As a long-standing leader in global news, Reuters collaborated with AWS to reimagine what 'fast' can look like in modern broadcast workflows," said Steph Lone, Director of Solution Architecture at AWS. "Together, we've built a cloud-native, TAMS-based pipeline that moves content in seconds, while preserving the security, reliability and control that news organizations require. This award underlines how open, interoperable cloud architectures can power the next generation of live and near-live production."
