Reuters announced this week that Alphonse Hardel has been named Head of Agency for Reuters, effective March 15, 2024. Hardel will lead the News Agency business at Reuters, serving media, technology, corporates and other organizations around the world with trusted, independent and unbiased news and information.

Hardel currently serves as VP of Business Development and Strategy at Reuters, responsible for delivering strategic partnerships, acquisitions aligned with our strategic needs and developing growth opportunities. He also leads the data & analytics and program delivery functions. Prior to this role, he led business development for the Agency business, was Interim Head of Sales for Agency and had a number of product roles in which he helped deliver a range of key products, including implementing the partnership strategy for Reuters Connect, conceiving and launching a new commercial model for digital video, and negotiating contracts with key customers and partners.

Sue Brooks, the current head of Agency at Reuters, who announced her retirement in July 2023, will work with Hardel during the leadership transition through March. Brooks joined Reuters in late 2015 after 14 years at the Associated Press to lead Product and later the News Agency business. At Reuters, Brooks conceived and then led the incredibly successful launch of Reuters Connect in 2017. She has helped deepen the relationship with Reuters biggest client, LSEG, and led the Product division through a period of significant growth and expansion. Her early experience as a journalist and deep knowledge of the news business continues to help Reuters maintain its position as the leading global provider of multimedia news, reaching billions of people worldwide every day.

"Alphonse's deep knowledge of the Agency business and his expertise at serving Reuters customers means he is the right person to lead and grow the business this year and beyond," said Paul Bascobert, President of Reuters.

"Sue has had an extraordinary and trailblazing career. I am happy that she will enjoy time to pursue other passions, but we will miss her industry knowledge, passion for journalism and friendship."
