Reuters announced today the release of a commemorative photography book and launch of photo exhibitions to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Reuters Pictures, honoring the visual journalism that has shaped how the world sees the news.

“In the Moment,” published by Thames & Hudson, highlights the work of Reuters photojournalists capturing pivotal moments in history across four decades and every corner of the globe. The book pairs indelible photographs with first‑person accounts from Reuters photojournalists on witnessing — and documenting — events that changed the course of our times. “In the Moment” will be released on September 25 in the UK and October 14 in the U.S., and is available to pre-order now through major booksellers.

In celebration of this anniversary milestone, Reuters Pictures is also hosting a series of exhibitions, including a special showcase at the Canon exhibition space which was showcased during the prestigious International Festival of Photojournalism in Perpignan this month. Additionally, Reuters will host an exhibition at the London College of Communications and at the Committee to Protect Journalists in New York as well as a book launch at Thames & Hudson in London on September 23.

"Reuters Pictures has consistently set the standard for photojournalism, combining innovation with integrity for four decades," said Reuters Head of Visuals Joanna Webster. "Our 40th anniversary is a testament to the dedication and talent of our photojournalists, who have committed themselves to this important work while often facing the most challenging of circumstances."

Founded in 1985 as the world’s first digital picture transmission network, Reuters Pictures has relentlessly pushed the boundaries of speed, reach and storytelling. Today, Reuters photojournalists deliver more than 1.5 million pictures each year and are known for being first on the scene to document history-making news events in real time. With seven Pulitzer Prizes and multiple Pictures of the Year International awards, Reuters Pictures remains the premier destination for iconic imagery across global news, entertainment and sports events.
