Pulitzer Prize-winning Fentanyl Express

In 2025, Reuters was multiple awards, including a Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting, for Fentanyl Express — a months-long investigation that uncovered how precursor chemicals from China were fueling the U.S. opioid epidemic.

The series revealed for the first time how the chemical supply chain works and exposed how and why the U.S. government has been unable to stem the flow despite major diplomatic and law-enforcement pushes by the Biden and first Trump administrations.
