Day one of Reuters MOMENTUM launched in Austin with a packed schedule of AI thought leaders who gathered to shape an AI roadmap that aims to balance innovation with responsibility.

Sapphire Ventures plans to invest over $1 billion in enterprise AI startups

Sapphire Ventures plans to invest over $1 billion in AI enterprise startups, doubling down on the technology's adoption by companies across the world, its president Jai Das said at the Reuters MOMENTUM conference in Austin on Tuesday. The $1 billion in capital will come from Sapphire's existing funds, which have $10 billion under management and about $3 billion waiting to the deployed. The majority will be a direct investment in AI startups, while some capital will also go to early-stage AI-focused venture funds through its limited partner fund.

Generative AI comes to Nasdaq, winning over engineers before lawyers

Months into the advent of more powerful artificial intelligence, a split is emerging inside the corporate world: engineers and marketers are embracing it, while lawyers less so, Nasdaq's chief technology and chief information officer said Tuesday. Inside Nasdaq (NDAQ.O), which operates stock exchanges and sells technology for global markets, workers across different departments are exploring how to use more novel AI, Brad Peterson said at the Reuters MOMENTUM conference in Austin.

Amazon touts its low-cost cloud computing in generative AI race

A key way that Amazon's (AMZN.O) cloud division aims to set itself apart from rivals perceived to have a leg up on artificial intelligence is by competing on price, an executive said on Tuesday. The AI models behind a viral chatbot like ChatGPT require immense computing power to train and operate, the kinds of costs Amazon Web Services (AWS) is good at lowering, said Dilip Kumar, vice president overseeing its applications group.
