Danish Siddiqui' photography book commemorates late Reuters photojournalist's career

The work of the late Reuters photojournalist Danish Siddiqui is being celebrated through a newly published book of outstanding photographs from his over ten years with the news organization. Available for purchase from July 16, 2023, the royalties from the book's sale will go to Siddiqui's wife, Frederike Harrant Siddiqui, and their two children.

The book's publication date marks the second anniversary of Siddiqui's death on July 16, 2021. Siddiqui was killed while on assignment in Afghanistan. He was embedded with Afghan special forces when they came under attack by the Taliban.

Siddiqui joined Reuters in 2010 and covered key events across Asia and the Middle East, including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the COVID-19 pandemic in India, protests in Hong Kong and earthquakes in Nepal. He also photographed the lives of ordinary people in his home country of India. Siddiqui was uniquely able to capture what was happening in the world in its most unvarnished form, making it difficult for audiences to dismiss or ignore.

Siddiqui won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work at Reuters, his first for Feature Photography in 2018, as part of a team of Reuters photographers, documenting Myanmar's Rohingya refugee crisis. His second Pulitzer Prize was awarded posthumously in 2022 for documenting the surge of Coronavirus infections across India.  

Reuters Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni shared in the book's epilogue: "Danish's generous spirit shines through in every image - a testament to his legacy in this newsroom and the world."

"Danish Siddiqui", which features over 150 of Siddiqui's photographs, is published by Kehrer Verlag and edited by Reuters editor, Joyce Adeluwoye-Adams. The book is available on Kehrer's website and other retailers.
