New service is the first industry-compliant offering of its kind

Reuters today announced the launch of its new live video application programming interface (API). The offering is set to significantly improve time-to-air with unparalleled integration options for live video, including machine-readable metadata.

The Reuters live API will enable quick and secure integration of live Reuters footage directly from on-the-ground crews into broadcasters' and digital newsrooms' content management systems (CMS), software or apps with greater ease and efficiency. The customer experience was integral to the development of Reuters new live video API and their feedback will continue to shape the service in the market

In an increasingly cloud native industry, the launch of the Reuters live API marks a milestone in the automation of scheduling and receiving of live feeds. The new Reuters offering is the first to comply with the Live Production Exchange (LPX), an industry standard set by the Digital Production Partnership (DPP), the international association for media and technology. Reuters was integral in developing the LPX standard with DPP, providing a common framework designed to bridge the gap between live producers, operators and the broadcast technology they use.

"The Reuters live API is set to transform live video distribution and integration into customers' workflows," said Oke Okaro, Chief Product Officer at Reuters. "Our innovative new service significantly increases the speed at which our customers can take a live event to air for their audiences, delivering trusted news in record-breaking time, without compromising the accuracy of the story."
