Reuters Graphics was selected as the winner of the World's Best Designed in the Society for News Design's 44th annual Best of Digital News Design creative competition.

Reuters earned the recognition for its coverage of the future of biodiversity, which included stories on topics such as the collapse of insects, why plants matter, the use of drones to combat plant extinction and the crisis putting 1 million species on the brink of disappearing.

Judges praised the coverage's originality, importance and wide range, with one judge writing: "The Reuters staff has shown that they can use a variety of techniques and styles, and they can use them well. Each design feels fresh and specific to the story."

In addition to Reuters World's Best Designed recognition, Reuters earned one Gold, four Silver and 13 Bronze awards for its graphics content. In addition, Simon Scarr, Reuters Deputy Global Editor, Graphic, was selected as the World's Best Designer for his art direction portfolio. The complete list of winning entries can be found here.

The Society for News Design Best of News Design creative competition recognizes excellence in print and digital storytelling, graphics, and social media, to identify the best visual journalism that pushes the boundaries of design and technology. This year's winners were selected from over 1,800 entries.
