Anticipation for the upcoming Winter Games in Beijing is in the air, carrying with it hopes that the global event will springboard the country towards becoming a winter sports destination. Preparation for the Games has transformed the once-impoverish Chongli district into the a home for Western-style resort villages like Thaiwoo, with a brewpub and shops for global brands like Bogner and Patagonia.
Elsewhere in the world of sport, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen claimed the win at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with a dramatic final stretch to the finish line. Rival team Mercedes has since filed notice of their intention to appeal the win arguing that the race director mismanaged a key decision in the closing moments of the race.
